NCT U is the first unit of the South Korean boy group NCT. NCT U is a rotational unit without a final lineup. The members will change in every release.
The unit debuted in April 2016, with the double digital singles "The 7th Sense" and "WITHOUT YOU", with its first lineup being Taeil, Taeyong, Doyoung, Ten, Jaehyun and Mark.
History
2016
In April 2016, SM Entertainment announced NCT's first unit, NCT U consisting of six members: Taeil, Taeyong, Doyoung, Ten, Jaehyun and Mark. NCT U released double digital singles "The 7th Sense" on April 9, sung by Taeyong, Doyoung, Ten, Jaehyun and Mark, and "WITHOUT YOU" on April 10 in two versions (a Korean version sung by Taeil, Doyoung, and Jaehyun, and a Chinese version with the addition of another former SMROOKIE, Kun).
2018
In January 2018, Taeil, Doyoung and Jaehyun released a digital single "Timeless" under NCT U, as a part of the SM STATION series.
In the same month, SM Entertainment announced a "large-scale project" for the year, titled NCT 2018. The whole group will release an album in March as 18 members, which will include songs from all the debuted units.
In February 2018, the first release of the NCT 2018 project was announced to be NCT U with the song "BOSS", for which a music video was released on February 19. The lineup included Taeyong, Doyoung, Jaehyun, WinWin, Mark, and the two newly debuted members, Jungwoo and Lucas. The second release of the project was a duet song "Baby Don't Stop" by Ten and Taeyong, which music video was released on February 27. Both of the songs will be featured in the album NCT 2018 EMPATHY, which was released on March 14. After the album's release there was announced that yet another music video would be released to one of the songs featured on the album. The music video for "YESTODAY" was released on April 1.
