NCT

NCT (엔시티; ensiti) is a South Korean boy group formed by SM Entertainment. Their name stands for the Hallyu localization project Neo Culture Technology, a term coined by SM founder Lee Soo-man to describe the group's concept of having an unlimited number of members divided into multiple sub-units based in various cities worldwide.

History[]

The group's six-member main unit NCT U made their debut in April 2016 with digital singles "The 7th Sense" and "WITHOUT YOU." The second unit, NCT 127 based in Seoul, made their debut in July 2016 with the mini album NCT #127. The third unit, NCT DREAM made their debut in August 2016 with digital single "Chewing Gum".

On August 12, SM announced that NCT DREAM and NCT 127 will be making their comebacks in the second half of the year, following with a debut their fourth China unit, WayV made their debut with the single "Regular" in their debut digital EP "The Vision".

As a whole group, NCT released their debut album, NCT 2018 EMPATHY on March 14, 2018, as 18 members, which includes songs from all the debuted units. Their second album NCT - RESONANCE Pt.1 on October 14, 2020, as 23 members, with two new members, Shotaro and Sungchan.

On February 3, 2023, SM Entertainment revealed that the group's next unit, NCT Tokyo will be debuting in the third quarter of 2023.

On February 24, SM revealed their plans for the first half of 2023, where they announced that following NCT Tokyo's debut, the group's concept of international expansion would come to an end, permanently fixing the group at five subunits.

On April 17, 2023, a fifth new fixed sub-unit featuring members Doyoung, Jaehyun, and Jungwoo debuted as NCT DoJaeJung with the mini album Perfume

On May 10, 2023, SM Entertainment announced that Lucas left NCT and WayV to focus on individual activities.

On May 24, 2023, SM Entertainment announced that Shotaro and Sungchan left NCT and will be debuting in a new SM Entertainment boy group.
